Stage and General Theatre Guidelines
Hair and Makeup: Refer to your costume letter.
Personal Items: All personal items need to be clearly marked. This includes costumes, dance shoes,
clothes, and tights. A small laundry-type basket, marked with your name, is an excellent way to help
keep everything together.
Food and Drink: No eating or drinking backstage or in the theater area. Water is allowed back
stage. We will provide water for the performers Wednesday-Saturday. If your child has a special
circumstance, and this rule will affect them, please talk to us before we go into the theater. Parents,
siblings, and relatives can purchase water and other snacks in the lobby. NO EATING IN COSTUMES!
Cell Phones: No cell phone usage backstage or in the theater! They must be turned off for all
rehearsals and through both shows. Violation of this rule will result in confiscation of your phone for
the evening.
SSSHHHH!: In order to help run through rehearsals as smoothly as possible, and decrease the stress,
we ask for no talking in the house during rehearsal. This applies to everyone: students, siblings,
parents, relatives, and friends. If you must have a conversation during rehearsal, please take it to
the lobby.
Closed Rehearsal: To ensure a smooth rehearsal and expedite the process, Wednesday and Thursday are CLOSED
Dress Rehearsals for the benefit of our students and staff. Your performer needs to have this time to
make sure they are putting the best possible show on stage. Only production staff will be allowed in
the theater.
Backstage: Out of respect for their fellow KU performers, while backstage all KU kids must follow the
Theater Rules of conduct and etiquette. Examples are: whispering instead of talking loudly, listening
to the backstage mom at all times, staying in assigned room, no running, no talking in the wings, etc.
It is extremely helpful if the performers bring quiet time activities such as books, cards, and games.
Noisy activities and crayons/markers are not allowed. Electronic devices/games are prohibited for
Senior Company and strongly discouraged for Junior Company. Should your child choose to bring
one, Kids Unlimited will not be responsible for loss or damage.
Theater: As a courtesy to the audience we ask that you do not go into or out of the theater during
the performance. If you need to leave during a performance please wait for the applause and be
sure to exit using the doors on the house floor to ensure the least amount of disruption. We ask that
you please share this information with your guests.
Lobby Etiquette: 1) Be respectful to everyone 2) Be responsible for yourself and your things 3) Be a
problem solver – help out when you see a need.
